We're gonna Celebrate and Dedicate the Lightweight

As shown in the title of this post, I've got mad rapping skills!  Word!  Ok, not so much....but a few weeks ago, we did celebrate Layla (aka "Lightweight") at a Baby Dedication Ceremony at our church.  It was WONDERFUL that Great Mom Polley, Momma Lo, Grand Bear (Johnny Bear's grandpa name as of right now), Mimi and Papaw were able to come down and celebrate with us!  Layla doesn't know it yet, but she has some pretty amazing and dedicated grandparents.

The night started off with some mingling and gawking at all the other babies.  And of course comparing Layla's cuteness to the other babies.  She obviously beat the all out, though there were a few that gave her a run for her money.  They hired someone to take family pictures, so we all posed for a few of those.  Little did they know, that we came supplied with our own photographer, Madison.  Since being in photography club, her interest in photography has really blossomed!  She's starting to get good too.

We then got to mow down on some super yummy Claudia Sanders' catered dinner.  If you didn't know, Claudia Sanders is the wife of Colonel Sanders, founder of KFC.  Our food was KFC style, but waaayyy better!  After we ate, one of the ministers said a short little something, something and then we shared a letter that they asked us to write.  I made Casey read it, because I would have cried in the middle of reading it.  I even started getting teary-eyed while he read it, as did most of the table.  Here's our letter to Layla...

Dear Layla,

In life you will continuously have ups and down, but remember we love you and we only want the best for you always.  We will always be there for you and will give you every opportunity to experience the things you are interested in.  We want you to be determined and confident in yourself and will do our best to instill these values in you.
We will always be your number one cheerleader while you pursue your dreams and will always lend an ear and guidance when you hit an obstacle in your life. When in doubt, pray to God, he will answer your prayers.  He will lead you in the right direction.

As you grow, we hope that you will come to know the love that God and your family has for you.  They will be a constant in your life. You have an amazing family that will always love and support you....don’t ever forget or take that for granted.  We will do everything in our power for you to learn to love and appreciate your family and friends.  You will always have a powerful bond with your family and they are the ones that will stick with you through the tough times and celebrate the goods times with you.

Being healthy and happy is something you should never take for granted.  Be thankful for the family, friends and blessings God has given you. Be humble. As you grow, we will teach you that being kind and considerate of others will not only get you further in life, but will also gain you many friends that you will most likely have for a life time.  Always put yourself in someone else’s shoes and act accordingly.

Most importantly do your best.  In everything.  If you set out to do something put your all into it.  Remember, it’s better to try and fail than to never try at all.

Finally, we hope that you are successful in all that you do.  Successful in your dreams.  Successful in your marriage.  Successful in motherhood.  And successful in life.  But remember, you won’t succeed all of the time.  Make sure you learn the lessons in your failures and also your successes.  Take that knowledge and apply it to your future.

Mom and Dad
